Outside South Park, however, it’s vanishingly rare to see TV satirists mocking progressive values or policies. Or at least, their demands have invariably been met. In effect, therefore, they’re the ones in charge. They even decide what words we can and can’t use. The real power in this country is held by progressives. A party calling itself the Conservatives may currently be clinging to office, but few of its remaining supporters believe that it’s in any meaningful sense conservative. And these days, that should mean mocking progressives.įorget the result of the last election.

The fundamental purpose of satire is to mock the powerful. There’s only one small problem with that. Because these days practically all other satire is made by progressives. It’s the only satire on television that mocks progressives more than it mocks conservatives.įor over 25 years now, South Park has been ridiculing political correctness, climate change activism, gender theory and more or less everything else held dear by progressives. But it’s also a reminder of what makes South Park so unusual. The latest episode of South Park depicts the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarking on a “Worldwide Privacy Tour”, during which they go on chat shows and tell everyone to stop looking at them.
